IDK Gravity: Derry Delights
2024 has started and with it, a new line-up of pop culture events. My 1st event for 2024 consisted of cosplay, gaming, horror, and clowns and it was very interesting. Fear in January. Navigating the icy cold atmosphere and harsh winds which sent chills down my spine and gripped my throat, I found sanctuary in an enclosed space that was filled with blood, gore, and birthday delights.
Welcome to the town of Derry, Cosplay Edition @ OSNYC.
For the unfamiliar, the fictional town of Derry lies in Maine, USA, and in the mind of acclaimed horror writer, Stephen King. Used in many of his novels, Derry has served as a multiverse of sorts for the well-established King-universe. One of its most famous stories, It, sets the environment of Derry as the movie’s setting. Here, one of the most famous evils in pop culture, Pennywise the Dancing Clown, has placed his grip on the town, causing a series of disturbances every 27 years by feeding on the fears of children.
And on January 13th, 2024 the forces of evil emerged once again, capturing souls, and taking no names, with many expressing their evil, yet loving admiration for the incredible birthday horror queen herself, IDK Gravity.
It was a real horror show. Clowns—evil, cute, lovable, and deadly—were present showcasing their alter egos, with names either laughable or dreadful. Additionally, the evil was even more illustrated as viewers were blessed with a surplus of cutscenes from horror hits such as, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, IT, and the famous flick, House of 1000 Corpses.
SideNote: Captain Spaulding is not to be F*cked with.
The haunted gathering was also graced by numerous guests from the creative community, all coming together to extend their warm wishes to the celebrated Horror Queen on her special day. Shoutout to Black Nerd Problem’s own Omar H., Gotham Geek Girl’s, Nadya Martinez, True Villainy, and Delta Major as they provided birthday blessings to IDK.
With music by Sailor Boom Party’s own DJ Highgnx & DJ Dimple, the crowd was hyped, energized, and loving the vibes as many donned the makeup, showcased evil grins, and had the time of their lives.
As the night unfolded, the horror-themed festivities featured interactive experiences like horror trivia, clown costume contests, and a burlesque show by the phenomenal, Delta Major. These clowns were wild. Trust Me, there’s video out there…..
Memorable moments were also created as the town of Derry had libations which brought reflections of the famed horror town. With the creation of drinks named "We All Float" and "Blood Punch," they not only added a thematic touch, but also became a source of enjoyment for partygoers.
As the halls of OS echoed with laughter and screams, the patrons’ shared admiration for the ghastly, grisly, and macabre led me to really understand the power of the town of Derry. Derry's influence extends far beyond its fictional borders, capturing the hearts and imaginations of all who dare to consume its sinister charm, leaving both fear and wonder in people’s hearts.
As the evening died down, a toast was made to the Queen. Surrounded by laughter and screams, the camaraderie among those who share a love for the horror genre was all that was necessary to make this event a bone-chilling success. That, and the famed cupid shuffle. A classic in all its forms.
In conclusion, the town of Derry has once again brought in souls to celebrate an unforgettable night of horror-themed clown celebration. From the diverse personas of clowns to the amazingly crafted potions, each element contributed to the immersive experience, leaving a permanent mark on the memory of those who ventured into the dark embrace of IDK Gravity’s memorable event.
A True Horror Show Indeed.
Happy Birthday IDK Gravity.
