Guardians of the Galaxy 2: A Review

Guardians of the Galaxy 2: A Review

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 packs a whole lot of action, adventure, laughs, romance, drama and kick ass music courtesy of Star- Lord’s (Chris Pratt) cassette player into a 136-minute film. Therefore, anyone looking for a movie that offers a variety of genres to see this summer, this is the movie to see.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is so darn good, with its high budget, fast paced chasing scenes in high definition and all star cast. This movie adds to the growing collection of other successful Marvel films such as the first Avengers movie, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War. The movie’s original cast is here: Chris Pratt (Star-Load), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer ), Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillian (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu) and new cast member Kurt Russell (Ego the Living Planet) followed by a large troupe of Bounty Hunters, Space Pirates and Gold skin Celestial beings all under the guidance of Director, James Dunn.

Another reason why people should see Guardians of the Galaxy 2 again and again is the fact that the movie does such a great job in developing each character. For example, Baby Groot stole the spotlight a few times in the film by…(spoiler alert) dancing to Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra while the other guardians are fighting an inter-dimensional monster in the background during the opening credits of the movie and again when Baby Groot… (spoiler alert) manages to successfully activate the bomb needed to save the Guardians from Ego. In addition even Rocket has a moment when he… (spoiler alert) successfully holds off a large group of bounty hunters by himself and again when he… (spoiler alert) stops Gamora (Zoe Saldana) from sacrificing herself to save everyone from Ego. The take on this film highlights each characters personality, which causes the audience to be more sympathetic towards them. This gave Guardians of the Galaxy it’s own moment making it so independent for a marvel movie it didn't need to make any references to prior marvel movie characters such as Iron Man, Thor or Captain America to draw in that one extra fanboy. What makes Guardians of the Galaxy 2 watchable and great is that The Guardians of the Universe are their own team protecting the Universe from threats outside of Earth, while the Avengers are protecting the Earth; watch the first 15 minutes of this movie and you’ll see for yourself.

While Guardians of Galaxy 2 have its slow moments like the scene between Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) and Mantis (Pom Klementieff) where Mantis is struggling to understand emotions, there are also some jokes in the movie that fall flat. For example, (spoiler alert), the mercenary “Taserface” and how Rocket makes pointless jokes about the dynamic of his name.

Guardians of Galaxy 2 is still a good film not only for its characters and themes, but also for the fact that it’s a space movie. Its no question that humans have always had a curiosity for the unknown and space is the most unknown thing there is for us to explore. From examining the origins of the universe to the soon discovery of extraterrestrial life from other planets, space has always been society’s most interesting and mysterious form of study.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is a great movie to see and the emotional impact it will leave on the audience is one that will bring people together with friends and family. The film does great work on these themes as each character experiences tragedy from either the past or present. Their purpose and the movie’s purpose becomes clear that family and love are fundamental. Toward the end, the Guardians admit to not having a normal relationship with each other, but above it all, they regard themselves as family. Furthermore there is that touching moment between Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Yondu (Michael Rooker) when Yondu openly admits to Star-Lord that he acknowledges him as his own.

Overall this film leaves people with an appreciation for their loved ones and causes you to look under a person’s outer shell and focus on the person inside. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will leave you laughing, crying and cheeringly looking forward to Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
