How Warner Brothers made Deadpool 2 Successful: Josh Brolin

How Warner Brothers made Deadpool 2 Successful: Josh Brolin

I will be the first to admit it that I, too, was caught up in the hype for Deadpool 2 but for some strange reason, I really couldn’t enjoy it. It wasn’t because of the animated sarcasms from America’s favorite ‘Merc with the Mouth’; it wasn’t the great action sequences between Deadpool and Cable that hindered my enjoyment; It wasn’t the great love scenes between Colossus and Deadpool that stopped me from laughing. As a matter of fact, the aforementioned points were probably some of the best things about the movie. That and the animated screen magic (some good ol’ fashion CGI) between Colossus and Juggernaut was pretty freaking splendid, followed by Deadpool breaking the fourth wall yet again and doing what he does best; ruining the EGOs from the Fox execs upstairs by stating the movie had ‘some poor writing’, thus adding to the great and hilarious script.

Josh Brolin (Center) played Thanos (Left) & Cable (Right)

Additionally, with the great marketing strategy of Deadpool 2, the movie was able to provide the common folk and myself, through the use of 7-Eleven stores, various toy retail chains, and fast food joints a different vibe in the theatre. Deadpool 2 performed a feat that I didn’t think it would and could do…It allowed me to slightly forget about Avengers: Infinity War and for just a brief moment, take away the pain of the loss of my favorite characters and substitute it with unbearable laughter. But, in the midst of all this, it also delivered something else, a newcomer to the MCU…that damned Josh Brolin!!!

Josh Brolin, The tormentor and deliverer in the villain rolodex of the Marvel Universe, has placed his own personal acting stamp on the MCU!!!

Yes, Josh Brolin. He is quite possibly the most awesome villain/superhero actor to play a character or series of characters in the Marvel cinematic enterprise.  There have been actors that attempted to play multiple roles in the MCU, but to no noticeable avail. For example, Chris Evans; Marvel’s Captain America was actually the first Human Torch, followed by Michael B. Jordan; Marvel’s protagonist in Black Panther (Erik Kilmonger), who also played the second Human Torch. Although, they played their ‘Human Torch’ roles pretty well, they were able to truly shine in their secondary Marvel roles and bring in phenomenal box office dollars for Marvel.

….Now back to Josh Brolin, This dude is truly shining in Deadpool 2 as Cable and continues to still shine in the Marvel Universe (Remember Thanos?!). The funny thing about him is that his first superhero movie was with the DC Universe as Jonah Hex (so in a way, we wouldn’t have received these great Marvel blockbusters if not for Warner Bros.; so thanks WB!!!). I have no idea what that character (Jonah Hex) represented in that movie, but I will tell you this… I never stopped watching him. Jonah Hex a.k.a. Josh Brolin has a presence on screen that will make you continue to watch him no matter the movie. He’s just that dude that could portray any bad guy or better yet, the victim (remember ‘No Country for Old Men’?) in a movie.

                Josh Brolin as Jonah Hex

...Now back to him as Cable…he killed it. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen Cable and observed his performances in other arenas such as the comic books (X-Force/X-Men), the Deadpool and Marvel vs. Capcom video game (which I believe they should do a remake with Ryan Reynolds and Josh B.’s voice as part of the character lineup) and especially in the Fox cartoon, X-Men, which aired in the 90’s. I’m not sure what it was, but he [Josh Brolin] found a way to navigate the comedic genius of Deadpool and his [Deadpool’s] alter ego Ryan Reynolds (I said it correctly) and created a lane for himself to be the best future fighter in the Marvel Universe.  Also, I need to add the fact that he did a stellar performance as the voice of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War as he absolutely rocked it as the ender of half the universe. Great Work Josh.

Josh Brolin is a force to be reckoned with in the Marvel Universe and as a former Superhero, if you want to call it that, of the DC universe, I have one question to ask Warner Bros…..‘What is wrong with you that you let a man with excellent talent in the superhero universe go?’ For shame WB!!!

Now I will go on record and say this… with the aid of Josh Brolin being the only actor with two successful superhero identities under his belt in the MCU, is it safe to say that the Marvel cinematic universe will be recycling more of their actors, as some of their contracts are approaching their expiration date? I mean, can you imagine Vin Diesel playing Silver Surfur? (I know, I’m reaching with this one). And get this, after Avengers: Infinity War, and Deadpool 2 would you believe he’s starring in another movie this year as an FBI agent in Sicario: Day of the Soldado. To me, he’s starting to resemble the Caucasian version of Samuel L. Jackson, by appearing in every single movie and killing the damn thing!!!

Only time will tell, but for now, let’s applaud Josh Brolin as he nailed 2 iconic Marvel Universe characters and give a round of applause for Warner Bros. who let him go in the DC superhero business. Maybe, Warner Brothers is good for something after all!!!
