Dominating the North American box office at $200 million and $650 million world wide and scoring a 93% rating on rotten tomatoes, Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok is the movie to see with friends or family. Packed with tears, laughs, family drama, an army of the undead, inter-dimensional space travel and a whole lot of Hulk smash, Thor: Ragnarok is the movie to enrich the whole family’s taste no matter what tickles their fancy. The movie featured Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder along with supporting characters Loki (Tom Huddleston), Odin (Anthony Hopkins) Hela (Cate Blanchett) Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) Helmdall (Idris Elba) Executioner (Kurt Urban) The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) and even a surprise appearance from Dr. Hugo Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).
Thor: Ragnarok offers a number of themes to give every movie goer something to talk about whether it’s the incredible fight scenes, emotional family moments, laugh out loud moments between Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo or a story that will leave you researching actual Norse mythology, Thor: Ragnarok will have you talking about it for days on end.
First the emotional moments between Thor and Loki. Now anyone that saw the first two Thor movies knows the God of Thunder and The God of Mischief don’t really see eye to eye, but this time around the two brothers may really have to put their differences aside to fight a threat bigger than both of them (Spoiler Alert: if you thought Loki was a pain the ass as an sibling then you have to see this movie). However, it’s not just about the siblings there are plenty of moments between father and son(s). Odin provides his son Thor plenty of emotional support that any good father would do for his son and while Odin doesn’t exactly take center stage in the movie his words and actions definitely set the story in full swing.
Thor and Hulk: Best Friends Forever
Additionally, the movie has a lot of great dialogue between the characters that will make you laugh your ass off with one scene adding more to the previous scene. Notable examples include Thor and Bruce Banner/Hulk. The movie plays on the two Avengers rivalry/friendship and uses that as a means to not only bring in the laughs, but to also establish both mental and emotional growth in both characters. Towards the end of the film The Hulk is shown as more than just a mindless brute, but a misunderstood creature dealing with a lot of emotional issues. Thor comes off as more than just a prideful, larger than life celebrity. Towards the movie's end he becomes a person worthy of the powers and responsibilities bestowed upon him since the first Thor film. Even Loki is given character development upgrade in this film. Although Loki is still up to his usual tricks, he doesn’t come off as a big prick, especially when put next to the Grandmaster.
The moments that brought the most cheers were the fight scenes. The film features a number of fights between many characters including the coliseum fight between Thor and Hulk, Hela vs thousands of Asgard soldiers, Loki vs Valkyrie, Helmdall vs an army of the dead, Hulk vs Fenris or Thor vs Hela. In addition to the fights, featured are a large variety of weapons including Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, Valkyrie’s Dragon Fang Sword, The Executioner’s Axe, Hela’s endless supply of daggers as well as a collection of spears, axes, shields and yes...Machine guns (Spoiler Alert: one of the writers apparently was watching Scarface the night before when thinking of including machine guns in the film).

Now while watching the movie you may ask yourself who exactly is the main villain? Hela or The Grandmaster?, especially when the movie jumps from one story to another, but Thor: Ragnarok provides enough action, drama, comedy and thrills to not only satisfy your needs in that regard, but teaches its viewers the importance of family and commitment to one’s people. “Asgard is not a place, but the people” as stated by Odin several times in the film and meant to teach both Thor and viewers that as long as the people are looked after and happy then home is always with you. Maybe Trump should watch Thor!!!
Thor: Ragnarok is an amazing third installment and a great addition to the Marvel Comic Universe [MCU]. Very few movies can make one laugh, cry and cheer at once and Thor: Ragnarok did just that. Thor teaches the importance of responsibility and stepping up when it’s needed and also teaches how family is not just determined by blood, but by actions. Thor: Ragnarok provides an emotional growth to the cast and to the viewers that is going to make you wanting for the next film.
